Adam Baldwin: A Conservative Voice in Hollywood

Adam Baldwin may not be as famous as the four Baldwin Brothers (Daniel, Alec, Billy, Stephen), but he certainly seems to be the most grounded of any Baldwins working in Hollywood today.  One of the stars of NBC’s Chuck, Adam Baldwin is that rare bird in Tinseltown — an out-of-the-closet and outspoken conservative.  How refreshing. Adam Baldwin has been working steadily in Hollywood since 1980.  From his eclectic roles of Jayne Cobb in the cult television classic Firefly to Animal Mother in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, Baldwin has made a name for himself as an actor.  But, Adam sees himself as more than just an actor: “It was never the fame or fortune that drove me to act. It was something I love and enjoy doing it. A lot of people identify who they are … Read entire article »

Birthers & the Futility of Arguing With Irrational People

Conspiracy:  an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot. (here) There seems to be no shortage of conspiracy theories surrounding the public release of President Obama’s “long-form” birth certificate.  Both simple and elaborate theories abound of the supposedly evil, surreptitious plans hatched by forces too secret to even know who have duped the American public into thinking that President Obama was actually born in the United States of America (if you consider Hawaii part of the union). At last count, there are at least twenty different conspiracy theories regarding the just-released birth certificate.  All of these theories, in one way or another, seek to show that President Obama’s birth certificate, released by Hawaii’s Department of Health, is somehow a fake or forgery.  All I can say … Read entire article »

Trump & Obama: Egos & the Absence of Humility

Why now?  Why not two years ago?  You don’t have to be a “birther” (or former “birther” now — the “movement” just imploded) to wonder why it took so long for the President to do what most Americans would probably view as common sense — request the state of Hawaii to release his “long-form” birth certificate.  Apparently, once the President of the United States asked the Department of Health in Hawaii to make available the “long-form” birth certificate, the Health Department made an “exception” and released the certificate because of the extraordinary number of requests that had been made to see it. After reviewing the previously released computer-generated form and the newly released ”long-form” certificates, it is baffling why the President did not ask the Hawaiian government to release the “long-form” sooner.  With … Read entire article »

Obama’s Easter Strike-out!

No one really throws hard balls to the President, so it was still somewhat surprising when he and/or folks within his administration took three big swings at all things Easter and came up with a goose egg (not the kind you want to find on Easter).  The first swing and miss came courtesy of President Obama’s choice of which church he and his family would worship at on Easter Sunday morning. Now, as a (Southern) Baptist pastor, I take some comfort knowing that the President chose to worship at the historic Shiloh Baptist Church in the nation’s Capital.  Having worshipped at a large Methodist church last Easter (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I was glad to hear that the First Family would be worshipped with Christians of the Baptist persuasion this Easter.  However, my … Read entire article »

Easter Eggs & Emergency Rooms

Sunday was one of those glorious New Mexico days — bright, blue skies and a cool breeze to keep the temperature pleasant all day.  The day started with the sun peaking over the Sacramento Mountains, just in time for the beginning our of our annual Easter Sunrise Service at Bethel Baptist Church.  After two more morning Worship Services celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, I journeyed home – tired, but excited – for what I thought would be a ”normal” Easter afternoon — eating ham and hunting for Easter eggs. However, our youngest son, Andrew, had other plans for us.  As he was coming into eat lunch, he slipped and fell into the side of the house, hitting his head on the edge of one of the bricks.  We heard the door slam and the cry, but didn’t realize … Read entire article »
