French Politicians, Pigs & American Justice
After spending three nights at Riker’s Island Prison in New York for allegedly raping a 32 year-old maid in his $3,000 a night hotel room, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the now former head of the International Monetary Fund, has been freed on $6 million bail. While awaiting trial, he will live in an Upper East Side condo where apartments rent for $8,800 per month. If you don’t want to rent, you can pony up to $26 million to buy one. The condo complex comes with 24-hour concierge service and a swimming pool. Oh, and maid service (no joke) is included. On Saturday, May 14, Strauss-Kahn was pulled out of the First Class cabin of an Air France jet just minutes before take-off to France, an “ally” of the United States with which we have no extradition treaty. Israel: With Friends Like Obama, Who Needs Enemies?
This past Sunday, while preaching on the name of Jesus — perhaps the most well-known resident of Israel (past, present, or future) – I asked those in the congregation to call out the first thing that they associated with the name of the person I would mention. When I mentioned Osama bin Laden, several yelled out “dead.” The same for Elvis and Sinatra — “dead!” When I mentioned the name Barack Obama, there were audible boos and cat-calls. While not excusing the reaction of some within the congregation, I quickly reminded everyone something my mother taught me: if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say it at all — or at least not in a house of worship on a Sunday morning! Notwithstanding that piece of advice, I can understand … Read entire article »
Jerry Nash, SBCToday & a Chill Wind a Blowin
Jerry Nash has put a burr under a lot of saddles. The Director of Missions (an endangered species in the new Southern Baptist Convention) of the Harmony Baptist Association in Trenton, Florida, Dr. Nash wrote an opinion piece entitled, “Hold the Hearse, I Have An Idea!” In his relatively short, five-paragraph post published at SBCToday on May 9, 2011, Dr. Nash uses strong language to express displeasure at what he sees as radical changes taking place within the SBC, changes that he believes will lead to the destruction of the nation’s largest Protestant body. It did not take long for those with differing views from Nash to join the fray. Since Nash’s original post was published, Dave Miller at SBCVoices, a prominent site for Southern Baptist news and opinion, wrote a post challenging … Read entire article »

Donald Trump’s Elite Christian Posse
When Mike Huckabee, the popular ex-Governor of Arkansas and former Presidential candidate, announced that he would not make another White House run, one of his potential competitors, Donald Trump, said: “A lot of people are very happy that he will not be running, especially other candidates, so Mike enjoy the show. The ratings are terrific. Good luck.” That’s about what you would expect from Donald Trump, the millionaire mogul known for owning casinos, starring in The Apprentice, cursing in public and, living out his heretofore unknown Christian values. I’m quite certain that Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist pastor, has a more Biblical view of life, starting with God’s providential hand of blessing. Lady luck might be worshipped in Trump’s casinos, but it has precious little to do with the rise and fall of television ratings or Presidential candidacies. Maybe it would be a good … Read entire article »
