{"id":2825,"date":"2011-11-18T00:25:46","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T07:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/?p=2825"},"modified":"2011-11-19T21:56:22","modified_gmt":"2011-11-20T04:56:22","slug":"scanners-the-tim-tebow-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/?p=2825","title":{"rendered":"Scanners:  The Tim Tebow Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my favorite science fiction\/horror movies of the 1980&#8217;s (yes, I&#8217;m dating myself) was <em>Scanners<\/em>.\u00a0 If you are unfamiliar with the premise, two brothers are separated at birth.\u00a0 Both have psychic\u00a0powers which not only can control other people&#8217;s minds, but can be used to inflict great pain on the mind,\u00a0even to the point of causing the head of those &#8220;scanned&#8221; to explode.\u00a0 Like any good sci-fi movie, there is a protagonist\u00a0&#8212; good brother Cameron Vale &#8212; and an antagonist\u00a0&#8212; evil brother Darryl Revok (deliciously played by character actor Michael Ironside).<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the movie, Revok\u00a0reeks havoc on an unsuspecting population, all in an attempt to gain control of the world (long before the days of Dr. Evil).\u00a0 In the explosive conclusion of this 1981 David Cronenberg\u00a0directed film, the two brothers scan each other to the death.\u00a0 Just when you thought that evil had prevailed, Cameron Vale had one last burst of\u00a0mind-blowing energy, taking down his brother with a scan\u00a0so strong that\u00a0Revok&#8217;s head exploded.\u00a0 For early 80&#8217;s special effects,\u00a0the finale was something to behold.<\/p>\n<p>On November 17, 2011 ( a great birthday week present for yours truly),\u00a0<em>Scanners:\u00a0 The Tim\u00a0Tebow\u00a0Edition<\/em>, was released.\u00a0 Just when you thought that\u00a0Rex Ryan and the Jets were going to win in the Mile High City, Tim Tebow, the often maligned and mocked starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, did the improbable.\u00a0 Marching 95 yards\u00a0with less than six minutes to play, Tebow\u00a0led the Broncos to their fourth win in five games.\u00a0 No one on the NFL Network&#8217;s Pre-Game show gave Tebow or the Broncos a chance.\u00a0\u00a0Anyone that was of any note in the football world picked the Jets to fly into Denver and bomb the Orange and Blue behind <del>over-rated<\/del>\u00a0Mark Sanchez&#8217;s air attack to wide receivers\u00a0Santonio\u00a0Holmes and Plaxico\u00a0Burress.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0if one were familiar with Tim Tebow&#8217;s\u00a0full body of work in College and High School (a\u00a0champion and winner at both levels), you could begin to see how the movie would end.\u00a0 Doing what Tim Tebow\u00a0has always done (not perfectly, but extremely consistently) throughout his career, he orchestrated a come-from-behind victory that was downright Elway-esque.\u00a0\u00a0Running and passing (yes, he can pass), Tebow\u00a0moved the chains.\u00a0 With\u00a0the game on the line and the Jets in an all-out blitz, Tebow\u00a0&#8212; the good, Christian kid from Jacksonville, ran\u00a0to his left, leaving the Jets sputtering and headed for a crash landing.\u00a0 Shaking off a\u00a0last-gasp\u00a0tackle attempt, Tebow\u00a0was in the endzone\u00a0for the go-ahead touchdown.\u00a0 Just 58 seconds later\u00a0(not enough\u00a0for this year&#8217;s Mark Sanchez), the Tebow-led Denver Broncos had put together a three game winning streak, <a title=\"Tim Tebow: Confounding His Critics One Game at a Time\" href=\"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/2011\/11\/16\/tim-tebow-confounding-his-critics-one-game-at-a-time\/\">confounding the critics and haters once again.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Sanchez&#8217;s Hail Mary pass fell to the ground and the\u00a0clock hit\u00a00:00, good had triumphed over evil.\u00a0 An ending that most of the talking heads predicted would not happen in fact happened right in front of their eyes.\u00a0 I know that I&#8217;m not supposed to have bad thoughts, but I couldn&#8217;t help but envision Trent Dilfer, Merril Hoge, and Cris Carter begin to hold their heads, as if in excruciating pain.\u00a0 For when the credits to this movie ended and the scene faded to black, Tim Tebow &#8212; the scanner that has gotten into their heads like no other player could &#8212; exploded their minds with his clutch play.<\/p>\n<p>After they gather the bits and pieces of their brains that were blown apart by Tim Tebow\u00a0and the Broncos on Thursday night, I can&#8217;t wait to see how they spin this win.\u00a0 I know they will look foolish and try to downgrade the Broncos&#8217; win and Tebow&#8217;s\u00a0skills as a quarterback.\u00a0 In the end, it won&#8217;t matter.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 I never thought I would quote him or even acknowledge that he was right, but maybe Al Davis was on to something &#8212;
