Will the Black Church Rebuke Obama Over Gay Marriage?

That didn’t take long. After Vice President Biden on Sunday opened the floodgates, it was only a matter of time before President Obama publicly expressed what most political observers already knew: that he supports so-called same-sex marriage. Biden, in answering a question posed by Meet the Press’ David Gregory, proudly declared: “The president sets the policy.  I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties.  And quite frankly, I don’t see much of a distinction — beyond that.” If the Vice President, a practicing Roman Catholic, doesn’t “see much of a distinction” between traditional marriage and gay marriage, then he perhaps needs to take remedial catechism classes as well as … Read entire article »

Dan Savage, Gay Bullies & the Intolerant Left

Who knew that there was such a thing as gay bullies? Well, if you are a fan of Seinfeld, you know full-well that there are indeed gay bullies. First introduced in the classic episode, The Soup Nazi, gay bullies Bob and Cedric steal an armoire that Kramer is watching for Elaine. In The Sponge, Kramer is again confronted by Bob and Cedric, who he describes as “ribbon bullies,” when they try to bully him into wearing an AIDS ribbon during a charity AIDS walk. “Who does not want to wear the ribbon” became one of the more famous catchlines from Seinfeld’s 1990′s run. In their third and final appearance in The Puerto Rican Day, Bob and Cedric lead an angry mob who attack Kramer after he accidentally set the Puerto Rican flag on fire with a sparkler. Bob … Read entire article »

Andy Stanley’s Soft Landing on Homosexuality?

Say it isn’t so, Joe (or, in this case, Andy)! Did my ears hear what I think they heard? Surely not. Was my mind playing tricks on me? It’s happened before, so I wouldn’t discount it. No way that Andy Stanley — one of Evangelical Christianity’s best communicators — would say something that could be misconstrued as condoning homosexuality. But, that’s exactly what my Student Pastor and I heard after listening to Part 5 of Stanley’s sermon series, “Christian: When Gracie Met Truthy.”(h/t to Peter Lumpkins’ post, “Mark Driscoll, Liberty University, Mitt Romney, Richard Land, Lifeway, Andy Stanley: a bit of potpourri”). I suppose both of us could have simply misunderstood what Andy Stanley was trying to communicate through one of his sermon illustrations. Believe me. As one who has benefited … Read entire article »

’80s Child Stars Launch Unfunny Attack on Free Speech

In what appears to be a desperate bid for another 15 minutes of fame, several child “stars” from such notable forgettable 1980s sitcoms like Mr. Belvedere and Charles in Charge have made a “Funny or Die” video (those easily offended should probably not watch it) about fellow ’80s child star Kirk Cameron of Growing Pains. The video, which is supposed to be humorous, takes aim at Cameron’s controversial views on homosexuality. Cameron reportedly was not offended by the video, even finding it funny. Did Cameron really find the mock video funny or was he exhibiting grace toward those who were intentionally ridiculing him? As a born-again Christian, Cameron may have been applying Biblical principles to the situation: “To the contrary, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; … Read entire article »

Kirk Cameron, Piers Morgan & the Gay Assault on Free Speech

You’ve gotta hand it to Piers Morgan. In a sad, pathetic attempt to get people to think that his CNN show (or CNN for that matter) is relevant, Morgan has become a master at the “drive-by” interview. What is a “drive-by” interview? It’s one designed to inflict maximum damage upon an unsuspecting “guest” by repeatedly asking hostile questions about controversial subjects until a “gotcha moment” happens. Of course, most of Morgan’s “drive-by’s” are perpetrated against conservatives. Christian guests seem to be favorite targets of Morgan’s tactics. It’s funny how one of the main topics that comes up with Christian guests is their views on homosexuality. Even if the interview is supposed to be about a completely unrelated topic, Morgan always seems to find a way to ask conservatives about their views on gay marriage. If you didn’t know any … Read entire article »
