“What’s your message?”\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0That was the question that Brian Kilmeade\u00a0of Fox\u00a0& Friends asked 4 year-old “preacher” Kanon\u00a0Tipton.\u00a0 As most 4 year-old boys are apt to do when asked a question that they do not comprehend, young Kanon\u00a0just shrugged his shoulders.\u00a0 Kanon and his parents, Damon and Candy, will be featured on National Geographic Channel’s “Pint-Sized Preachers,”\u00a0<\/a>which debuted on Wednesday, August 17.\u00a0 In their interview with Fox & Friends, Kanon’s mom continually talked about her son’s “passion and sincerity.”\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0After watching young Kanon, there is no question that he has passion and sincerity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, one cannot\u00a0discern whether something (or someone) is of God simply because the person is\u00a0passionate or sincere.\u00a0 If that were the criteria, then a person’s beliefs would\u00a0be validated as true\u00a0by the passion and sincerity with which the person holds said beliefs.\u00a0\u00a0Christians who believe in the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture cannot rely upon passion and\u00a0sincerity alone to determine whether our words or actions are “of God.”\u00a0 If what we say and\u00a0do conflicts with the written Word of God, then\u00a0no amount of passion or sincerity will change that fact.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are billions of people in the world who have passionate and sincere religious beliefs, but who continue to reject Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.\u00a0\u00a0Their passion and sincerity will not save them.\u00a0 Only Christ alone is salvation.\u00a0 The message of the\u00a0Gospel — the\u00a0atoning, sacrificial death\u00a0of Jesus Christ on the cross,\u00a0His death, burial, and Resurrection — is “the power of God unto salvation for those who believe.”\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>For preachers of any age, the Gospel of Jesus Christ\u00a0should be preached with passion and sincerity.\u00a0\u00a0To preach any other way does a\u00a0disservice to the Gospel.\u00a0 Does that mean that one must jump up and down, run\u00a0on and off the stage, yell at the top of\u00a0their voice, and pound\u00a0their fist on the pulpit, in order to be passionate and sincere about the Gospel?\u00a0 Of course not.\u00a0\u00a0That is a ludicrous proposition.<\/p>\n

I simply do not know whether young Kanon has been called by God to preach the Gospel message.\u00a0 After all, Jeremiah was called in his mother’s womb.\u00a0 But, I do know this —\u00a0\u00a0a passionate and sincere message,\u00a0whether preached by a 4 year-old or a 44 year-old,\u00a0\u00a0must always be founded upon the very Word of God.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by (or through) the Word of God.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
