No longer filming Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior<\/em>, Janeane Garofalo has apparently decided to not only limit her future audience<\/a>, but to shrink it down to such miniscule numbers that no one will really care.\u00a0 It pains me that she was not in one — but two —Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0episodes in the 1990’s.\u00a0 Looking back, that’s about two too many.<\/p>\n

Garofalo, recently interviewed by Keith Olbermann on Current TV, began displaying what can only be described as\u00a0an unhinged\u00a0rant about Herman Cain’s Presidential candidacy.\u00a0 To hear Ms. Garofalo, you would be hard-pressed not to come away with the impression that\u00a0she would have fit right in with the Southern white racists who controlled the Democrat Party in the 1950’s and 1960’s.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0Garofalo, a white “comedian,” to accuse Cain of\u00a0either being some kind of sell-out to his race or a victim of Stockholm Syndrome\u00a0is\u00a0repugnant.\u00a0 The racial double-standard that\u00a0allows\u00a0members of the lunatic left to enage in such vile racist invective\u00a0is quite astounding.\u00a0 But, I suppose\u00a0that’s to be expected in\u00a0Barack Obama’s “post-racial” America.<\/p>\n

With only hardcore liberals watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann<\/em>, one could\u00a0say that Garofalo was “preaching to the choir.”\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0As a pastor, I can certainly relate.\u00a0 But, apart from the diehard leftists, who will be persuaded by anything that Janeane Garofalo\u00a0says?\u00a0 Does she\u00a0truly want to\u00a0win people to her side of the argument?\u00a0 If she does,\u00a0she seems to be going about\u00a0it\u00a0the wrong way.<\/p>\n

Not only do most Americans — regardless of their political leanings — have little tolerance for bullies and hate-filled individuals, most\u00a0people\u00a0are fair-minded\u00a0and want to be treated with respect and dignity.\u00a0 They do not\u00a0take kindly to unfair personal attacks, particularly when the race card is played by one so ill-equipped as\u00a0Ms. Garofalo.<\/p>\n

I was reminded of how liberals once were able to share their message in a gentle and respectful way.\u00a0 As I was\u00a0channel surfing on Sunday night, I stopped on PBS.\u00a0 For me, that is rare.\u00a0 What got me to stop and watch?\u00a0 A special about the 1960’s musical trio, Peter, Paul, and Mary.\u00a0\u00a0As a conservative, the liberal message of Peter, Paul, and Mary should not resonate with me.\u00a0 But, I have to admit that I have been a fan of this wonderful trio since college.\u00a0 On paper, I should loathe Peter, Paul, and Mary, but, just as I loved “A Mighty Wind,”\u00a0<\/em>a hilarious send-up of the folk music culture, I love the musical stylings of the three legends.<\/p>\n

From “Puff the Magic Dragon” <\/em>(and no, this is not a song about drugs — it’s about a boy and his imaginary dragon)<\/a>\u00a0to “Blowin in the Wind,”\u00a0<\/em>I am captivated by the messages in song.\u00a0 I don’t necessarily agree with all\u00a0the politics contained in the songs, but at least I’m listening.\u00a0 Why is that?\u00a0 Because Peter\u00a0Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and the late Mary Travers delivered that message — as liberal as it was — in a winsome way.\u00a0 They came across as both\u00a0genuine and nice.\u00a0 Quite the opposite of a Ms. Garofalo and her ilk.\u00a0 Liberals (and conservatives) could learn a lot from Peter, Paul and Mary.\u00a0 Unfortunately, their voices have been drowned out by the increasingly shrill — and unhinged — sounds coming from Janeane Garofalo and her fellow travelers.\u00a0 In the end, that’s not gonna be good for anyone.
