{"id":2755,"date":"2011-10-04T08:00:53","date_gmt":"2011-10-04T14:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/?p=2755"},"modified":"2011-10-04T07:56:43","modified_gmt":"2011-10-04T13:56:43","slug":"hank-williams-fools-hitler-double-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/?p=2755","title":{"rendered":"Hank Williams, Fools, Hitler &#038; Double Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you ready for some football?\u00a0 A Monday night party?\u00a0 Well, the Monday Night Football party (such as it is) will apparently continue without Hank Williams, Jr. &#8212; at least for now.\u00a0 Williams, whose signature song,<em> &#8220;All My\u00a0Rowdy Friends,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>has\u00a0been synonymous with Monday Night Football on ABC and ESPN\u00a0since 1991, has<a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/espn\/story\/_\/id\/7056003\/espn-pulls-hank-williams-jr-ready-opening-mnf\" target=\"_blank\"> been given the hook by the powers-that-be at ESPN after comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler<\/a>.\u00a0 Given multiple opportunities to backtrack and clarify during a Monday morning interview on Fox &amp; Friends, Williams did himself no favors.\u00a0 He apparently forgot (if he ever knew) the maxim, <em><a title=\"Ergun Caner Supporters Need To Stop Digging\" href=\"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/2010\/07\/08\/ergun-caner-supporters-need-to-stop-digging\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;When you&#8217;re in a hole, stop digging.&#8221;<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Williams has dug himself into a hole that he is not likely to get out of anytime soon, if ever.\u00a0 What exactly did Williams say that caused such an uproar?\u00a0\u00a0Appearing on Fox &amp;\u00a0Friends on Monday morning, Williams said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0that he thought Speaker of the House John Boehner playing golf with President Obama &#8220;would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu &#8230; In the shape this country is in?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m guessing that Williams&#8217; analogy doesn&#8217;t have Obama playing the role of Bibi Netanyahu.\u00a0 Given President Obama&#8217;s continued animus toward the state of Israel, that is a gimme.\u00a0 However, in case anyone was confused, Hank continued to open his mouth, removing all doubt as to what he meant and removing all doubt\u00a0as to his\u00a0foolishness (at least on this issue).\u00a0 When Fox &amp; Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade told Williams he didn&#8217;t understand his analogy, Williams kept digging:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m glad you don&#8217;t, brother, because a lot of people do. They&#8217;re the enemy.&#8221; Asked who, Williams said: &#8220;Obama. And Biden. Are you kidding? The Three Stooges.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Fox &amp; Friends co-hosts, obviously fans of Hank Williams, Jr., tried in vain to save him from his idiocy, but to no avail.\u00a0 Toward the end of the interview, co-host Gretchen Carlson gave Williams one last chance to walk back at least some of his Hitler analogy.\u00a0 Williams, ever the cantankerous contrarian, wasn&#8217;t budging.\u00a0 When confronted with the fact that Williams had compared President Obama with one of the most evil men in recorded history &#8212; a comparison which immediately brings the intelligence of the one doing the comparing into question &#8212; Hank, Jr. doubled-down with what has to be one of the stupidest things he could have ever said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Well that&#8217;s true. But I&#8217;m telling you like it is.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Really?\u00a0 President Obama, as the<em> Red Eye&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0Greg Gutfeld would say, <em>&#8220;is worse than Hitler?&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 No one in their right mind could possibly believe that President Obama is the next coming of Adolph Hitler.\u00a0 Similarly, no rational\u00a0or sane person would compare President George W. Bush to the Nazi madman responsible for killing 6 million Jews in addition to millions of others during his reign in 1930&#8217;s and 1940&#8217;s Germany.\u00a0 This is sheer lunacy.<\/p>\n<p>When anyone, including Hank Williams, Jr., compares an American President (Obama or Bush) to Hitler, he demonstrates his own foolishness as well as a profound moral confusion regarding the Holocaust.\u00a0 And, herein lies the double standard.\u00a0 ESPN was well within its rights to remove Williams&#8217; song from MNF&#8217;s opening of the Colts\/Buccaneers game.\u00a0 Contrary to what some have argued, this is not a First Amendment issue.\u00a0 Many football fans are outraged at ESPN for removing Williams.\u00a0 These same fans have given Williams a pass on his Hitler analogy, most likely because they agree with his politics.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, liberals are outraged because of William&#8217;s pernicious remarks and want him permanently banned from MNF.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t matter that the likes of Janeane Garofalo\u00a0make ugly and\u00a0untrue\u00a0accusations against conservatives.\u00a0 The darlings of the left will always get a pass from\u00a0their fellow travelers, including liberals in the media.<\/p>\n<p>Hank Williams, just like Janeane\u00a0Garofalo and others on the lunatic left, have every right to say whatever inane thoughts come into\u00a0their minds.\u00a0 But, ESPN is not obligated to keep &#8220;All My Rowdy Friends&#8221; as the intro to Monday Night Football anymore than <a title=\"Garofalo &amp; Suspect Behavior Get the Boot!\" href=\"http:\/\/fromlaw2grace.com\/2011\/05\/19\/garofalo-suspect-behavior-get-the-boot\/\">CBS is obligated to keep on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Conservatives often battle double standards, particularly those employed by the media. However, on the issue of comparing politicians to Hitler, there should be one standard &#8212; don&#8217;t!\u00a0 Conservatives, above all people, should guard against giving passes to their own who foolishly use the Hitler analogy.
