Gone, but not forgotten, are the days of the Obama-era regulations which attempted to coerce privately held religious companies — not to mention clearly religious organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor — to pay for abortions through company-provided health insurance.

In recent weeks, Democrats have rushed to replace these now “antiquated” notions of abortion, choosing instead to “shout” and celebrate access to virtually unrestricted abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose father Mario, himself a former Governor of New York, once famously quipped that he was “personally against, but politically for” abortion rights, doesn’t even try to pretend like his father. After Andrew Cuomo ordered the One World Trade Center to be lit in pink, celebrating New York’s radical abortion law, I’m not sure how one could argue that he is truly “personally against” abortion. If this Governor Cuomo is, he sure has a strange way of communicating that belief to the world.

Speaking of strange, how to even begin discussing the Governor of my own state, Ralph Northam, one of at least two Virginia Democrat statewide elected officials who liked to dress up in blackface. Speaking ambiguously at best and horrifically at worst during a radio interview last week in support of “The Repeal Act,” a bill designed to repeal any and all meaningful impediments to abortion, up to and including the moment before live birth, Governor Northam appeared to endorse “post-birth abortion”:

“[Third trimester abortions are] done in cases where there may be severe deformities. That, and advocating for infanticide, are among many things that Governor Northam should regret.

But, not to be outdone or outshone by the Virginia Governor’s antics in Richmond, the saddest evidence of just how radical many Democrats are with respect to abortion rights came to light on Tuesday night in the House Chamber during President Trump’s State of the Union Address. Democrat Congresswomen donned white for the occasion, not to make a fashion statement, but rather a political one:

“Today we stand together wearing white in solidarity with the women of the suffrage movement who refused to take no for an answer,” said Representative Brenda Lawrence, who is also the leader of the Democratic Women’s Working Group. “To an administration that has closed its eyes to women, we will be seen.”

And, seen they were, just not in the way that they thought they would. In Syria as elsewhere, the color of clothing holds a very significant role in the culture, especially during mourning. And having been raised around the Syrian tradition, I was especially crestfallen to see white worn by these specific women, especially during a time where millions of Americans, including myself, are mourning the recent New York abortion legislation and Virginia governor Ralph Northam’s barbaric remarks on “post-birth abortion.” (“The Congresswomen at the SOTU Should’ve Worn Black”)

We should be a country in mourning.
