“We promise to reg(ister) and pledge allegiance to the planet on which we stand.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If it were up to the Disney Channel, kids all across America would be pledging allegiance to planet Earth instead of the flag.\u00a0 Environmentalism good — patriotism bad.\u00a0 Last week, while working on my blog, the television was tuned to the Disney Channel (my boys’ doing, not mine).\u00a0 I don’t normally watch or listen to most commercials, but this one caught my eye.\u00a0 I stopped typing and watched for just under two minutes as the teenage stars of the Disney Channel’s most popular shows made their pitch to kids (including mine)\u00a0all across America to “go green.” (watch the full video here<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Friends for Change<\/em> is Disney’s brilliant idea to “help heal the planet”\u00a0by encouraging everyone, especially children and teenagers, to be\u00a0environmentally conscious.\u00a0 While I do not\u00a0doubt the sincerity of these young people in wanting to do good and make a difference, I strongly disagree with the cultural theology that is being espoused by these actors and actresses, many of whom are probably not riding eco-friendly bicycles to the\u00a0sound stage or taking public transportation to their music gigs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The commercial begins with a question, “You know what the most powerful force in the world is?”\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0answer, supplied immediately, is “friendship.”\u00a0 The philosophy (or theology) behind theFriends for Change:\u00a0 Go Green<\/span><\/em> <\/span>campaign is simple.\u00a0 If 1 million “friends” can come together (and of course register and pledge\u00a0at Disney.com), then this group can make a huge impact upon our planet.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0giving homage to\u00a0the number one god of this age — radical environmentalism and the “green movement”\u00a0— the Disney stars are either knowingly (or I suspect, unwittingly) advocating a secular theology (made popular\u00a0by Baptist Al Gore)\u00a0that worships the\u00a0planet as a god rather than worships the God who created the planet.\u00a0 Of course, this is nothing new.\u00a0 The Apostle Paul, in\u00a0the first chapter of Romans, talks about\u00a0those who worshiped the creation instead of the Creator.\u00a0 I\u00a0wonder who was the Al Gore of the first century?<\/p>\n

The most powerful force for change in the world is not friendship, but it does involve a “friend who sticks closer than a brother.”\u00a0 Whether in the 1st Century or the 21st Century, the Gospel of Jesus Christ —\u00a0His death, burial, Resurrection,\u00a0Ascension, and Second Coming — continues to be the most powerful force for change\u00a0in the lives of the people of planet Earth.\u00a0 Pledge allegiance to the planet?\u00a0 No thanks.\u00a0 I think I’ll pledge allegiance to the Lamb who was\u00a0crucified and rose from the grave.\u00a0 Friendship power might seem cool today, but why settle for that when you can have Resurrection power?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
