\"\"<\/a>John\u00a0 Cusack, the far less funny brother of Joan Cusack, purports to be an actor and political activist.\u00a0 He is also an avid user of the social medium, Twitter.\u00a0 Combine all three and you get the inane and foolish\u00a0ramblings of a self-deluded Hollywood\u00a0“star”\u00a0<\/a>who has obviously forgotten what\u00a0has secured him both fame and fortune in the greatest nation on the face of the earth.<\/p>\n

Tweeting to his 200,000 “followers” this past Sunday night, Cusack wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cI AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES ORDICK\u00a0ARMEYAND\u00a0NEWT GINGRICH-and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS,\u201d (Tweet not originally in red; added by yours truly for effect)<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why would he tweet such a thing, you might ask?\u00a0 Seems one of his followers asked him a question regarding his support for the Ground Zero mosque in lower Manhattan.\u00a0 This was the reasoned, thoughtful response of Cusack, a supposed intellectual heavy hitter.\u00a0 What brilliance that emanates from the profound punditry of one John Cusack.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If he were really smart, though, he would have substituted Sarah Palin for Dick Armey\u00a0in the above Tweet.\u00a0 Armey, a former Texas\u00a0Republican Congressman, served as House Majority Leader from\u00a01995 until his retirement from Congress in 2003.\u00a0 I’m sure there is some logical, albeit\u00a0double-secret, reason why Cusack chose to\u00a0Tweet about\u00a0an individual who has been out of elected leadership for seven years.\u00a0 Not to mention, most of Cusack’s followers probably have no clue as to who Dick Armey\u00a0is.\u00a0 But who am I to question the wisdom and political savvy of John Cusack?<\/p>\n

I don’t believe for one minute that Cusack or any other Hollywood celebrity should be prevented from speaking their mind\u00a0or stepping into the political arena.\u00a0 The First Amendment protects their right to not only make movies or television shows, but also protects their right to spout (or Tweet) foolish nonsense.\u00a0 And, in a way, the unedited rantings of these\u00a0“talented” stars do\u00a0the little people a\u00a0favor.\u00a0\u00a0 With\u00a0the increasing cost of movies (including the rip-off 3D glasses which cannot be reused — a post for another day) and the countless choices for television viewing, the more celebrities like Cusack intentionally offend a portion of the viewing public, the easier it will be to exercise our First Amendment rights\u00a0by not\u00a0paying to\u00a0watch their movies or wasting time on their TV shows.<\/p>\n

So, to John Cusack and his fellow Hollywood A-listers: Go ahead and keep Tweeting.\u00a0 Keep speaking your mind.\u00a0 Keep letting us know just how smart you think you are.\u00a0 That’ll make it a lot easier for us — the unwashed masses — to figure out if we want to spend our money on your movies.\u00a0 Smart.\u00a0 Very Smart!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
