B-ball & Blogging: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!

Let the madness begin!  Well, it already has begun.  March Madness, otherwise known as the NCAA Basketball Tournament, started earlier today.  With some spare time on my hands this morning, much like all the spare time that the leader of the free world President of the United States has in the midst of worldwide crises, I too found time to fill out my tournament brackets. 

In the first day of play, I have won some and lost some.  I originally picked Morehead State to win its game, but then I realized I had misread the pairing, thinking that they were playing Georgetown.  As an alumnus of George Washington University, I will not under any circumstances cheer for Georgetown.  However, when I quickly realized Morehead was actually playing Louisville, I had to go with the team from the city of my seminary alma mater — The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Alas, I should have just stayed with the underdog in that encounter.

I did stick with Atlantic 10 powerhouse Temple (who won) and former Atlantic 10 rival WVU (another win), so I’m off to a so-so start.  Considering that basketball is not my favorite sport and I know next to nothing about any of this year’s teams, I really have nothing to lose.  I do have an all-SEC Championship Game, with Kentucky facing off against Florida.  To get there, the Wildcats will have to play better following a first-round scare from Princeton (yes, that Princeton).

While most folks are following basketball’s March Madness, many of my readers are unaware of another Championship tournament that started today — Southern Baptist Blog Madness 2011.  Sponsored by SBCVoices (who I have the privilege of writing for in addition to my own blog), this four-bracket tournament pits some of the best of the SBC blogosphere against one another.

There are some great blogs in the tournament.  As a relatively new blogger (less than nine months), I am grateful to have been nominated and included in this year’s tournament.  I have been placed in the Southwest Regional bracket.  As Dave Miller, editor of SBCVoices has stated about the voting process:

“And please, folks, a word about ethics here. We believe that shameless electioneering, begging for votes, manipulating your friends to log on and vote for you – these are all acceptable and expected behaviors.”

So, in the spirit of this year’s SBC Blog Madness 2011 Tournament, I am asking my readers to click on the link, SBC Blog Madness 2011, and vote for “From Law to Grace — Howell Scott” in the Southwest Region.  You have until next Thursday, March 24 to vote.  You can vote for up to four blogs in each of the four regions.  The top four in each bracket will advance to the next round.

Some of you have never heard of SBCVoices.  It is a website written by Southern Baptists for Southern Baptists (and others) regarding some of the religious, cultural, political, legal, and theological issues affecting our churches and our nation.  I highly recommend it (not just because I’m a contributor, but that helps) to all of my readers.
