You’ve gotta hand it to Piers Morgan. In a sad, pathetic attempt to get people to think that his CNN show (or CNN for that matter) is relevant, Morgan has become a master at the “drive-by” interview. What is a “drive-by” interview? It’s one designed to inflict maximum damage upon an unsuspecting “guest” by repeatedly asking hostile questions about controversial subjects until a “gotcha moment” happens. Of course, most of Morgan’s “drive-by’s” are perpetrated against conservatives. Christian guests seem to be favorite targets of Morgan’s tactics. It’s funny how one of the main topics that comes up with Christian guests is their views on homosexuality. Even if the interview is supposed to be about a completely unrelated topic, Morgan always seems to find a way to ask conservatives about their views on gay marriage. If you didn’t know any better, you would think that Morgan was an apologist for the radical gay lobby in this country or, at the very least, evinces a rather strong anti-Christian bias.
One of Morgan’s more infamous “drive-bys” occurred when Joel and Victoria Osteen were “guests” on his show. For full disclosure, I am not a fan of the Osteens. Anyone who can seemingly call King Ahab — arguably the most wicked Hebrew king recorded in Scripture — a man of faith (he had faith, but it wasn’t in God) is a far cry from what I would classify as a solid, Biblical preacher. Great motivational speaker? Yes. Gospel preacher? Hardly. But, I truly felt a little sorry for Joel and Victoria on that night, because they did not see the bullet coming.
Apparently, neither did Kirk Cameron. Cameron, who shot to fame playing Mike Seaver in the 1980’s series, Growing Pains, and who later starred in the Left Behind movies and Fireproof, is an outspoken Christian. And, when I say Christian, I mean someone who believes that the Bible is God’s Word and that God’s Word does not shift with the changing tides of culture — even on issues dealing with sexual ethics — no matter what the likes of Roseanne Barr or Growing Pains dad Alan Thicke have to say about it. When America starts getting its moral direction from Hollywood, then we are indeed headed into the dustbin of civilization. On second thought, I think we are traveling at breakneck speed in that general direction!
For you see, what Kirk Cameron proclaimed on Piers Morgan Tonight was moral truth. Just what truth was it? Cameron made this shocking claim:
“So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”
And when asked if he thought homosexuality was a sin, Cameron went on to say, “I think that it’s unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
And, truth does not change. It is a truth that the left, particularly the Hollywood left and the gay left, do not want to hear. But, for all their progressivism and so-called tolerance, the radical left in this country is only half a step away from Stalinism at its finest. In a bit of irony that I’m quite sure was lost on E! Online’s Gina Sherpe, she wrote:
Over the weekend, stars like George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Jane Lynch reacted as one (emphasis added) to the former teen idol’s homophobic remarks, condemning his comments that homosexuality was “unnatural” and gay marriage “detrimental” to society.
“Reacting as one” is quite common in Castro’s Cuba or in Chavez’s Venezuela. That’s not surprising since many in Hollywood seem to love repressive regimes. No where else in the world would these folks have the freedom to produce and create the most offensive and vile excrement that passes for “entertainment” today. How do homosexuals fair in these oppressive regimes?
Because of the First Amendment, Hollywood can continue to spew forth poison every day, all in the guise of “art.” Please! Because many of these “celebrities” and “actors” have lived so long in the cesspool that is the entertainment industry, they have become so deluded in their thinking that any speech with which they disagree is now automatically labeled as “hate speech.” This is particularly true with the gay rights lobby. If anyone — especially in Hollywood — dares leave the reservation of totalitarian thought on this issue, he is branded a bigoted homophobe who needs to be reeducated or silenced. As an out-of-the-closet conservative Hollywood producer/writer recently opined following the death of Andrew Breitbart:
Toadies in the MSM assert that there is no Blacklist in Hollywood. And they’re right. It’s not necessary because Hollywood is a very, very small, very, very ruthless town, where a few key words spoken in the right ears can absolutely wreck a career–code-words like “difficult,” “high-maintenance” and “uneven.” When you can obliterate a fellow professional with a few well-chosen phrases, why maintain something as crude and inelegant as a Blacklist? (full article here, but be warned of graphic language used)
The pro-gay leftists in Hollywood and elsewhere are now set on obliterating Kirk Cameron by labeling him a homophobic bigot who spews hate speech (what other kind is there?). Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD, said,
“In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character. Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans … with an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.”
While Kirk Cameron may not have spoken for a majority in Hollywood (although give people a secret ballot and they just might reject Brokeback Mountain in favor of Crash — just sayin’), he speaks for many regular Americans in “fly-over” country:
“I should be able to express moral views on social issues, especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.”
It just so happens that when the people are allowed to vote on the definition of marriage, a majority of voters in 31 out of 31 states have defined marriage as between “one man and one woman.” Sounds like people are speaking the language of Mr. Cameron, not the language of the Hollywood establishment. Go figure. Kirk Cameron may even speak for a majority of Californians, if the vote on Prop 8 is any indication, much to the consternation and apoplexy evident on the left (see the various Prop 8 plays if you need further proof of just how out-of-touch Hollywood is with mainstream America).
Mr. Graddick and others like to think that there is a “growing majority of Americans” who support same-sex marriage. But, when people are free to speak and vote their consciences, the only thing that will be seen growing is the pains in the side of leftists, as Kirk Cameron and other Americans continue to speak the truth in love and refuse to capitulate to the gay assault on free speech!
This is interesting based upon the news out of NY. It was an intersting dichotomy that Hollywood claims that Christians are bigots and hateful for expressing our beliefs and attack Cameron for sharing his views in a dialogue and not a diatribe. Then the councilman from NY makes a public stand against GBC and calls for a boycott because if this show focused on the negative stereotypes of other religions then it would have never been on the air. My point is that Hollywood can make absolute claims and statements of their beliefs and we have to accept them but Christians are unable to do so without being called hate filled.
Jeremy,
Thanks for sharing your background. It is truly a small world 🙂 We were just up at FBC Ruidoso Downs last month for the annual music festival. We have a great Association and some wonderful Christian folks here. Sivells is still going strong, reaching young people at their summer camps. That is neat that God used the people in this part of NM to bring you to faith and to answer the call to ministry.
I haven’t seen the NY councilman’s call for a boycott, but it doesn’t surprise me. There’s no question that a double-standard exists regarding Christians and being able to openly express our faith and beliefs, particularly on pressing moral issues such as homosexuality and abortion. Of course, Jesus said that the world would hate us for being His followers. My New Testament professor in Seminary taught us that when we look at the beatitudes and the blesings that Jesus spoke, that we should look on these with joy and excitement, not drudgery or distain. In a very real sense, Kirk Cameron and other Christians are blessed when people revile us and say all kinds of mean things about us because of our faith in Christ. The world will not understand this, but Christians should. That still doesn’t mean that we should not speak up about our faith. We just need to expect that the world will call darkness light and light darkness.
Thanks again for reading and for sharing this morning. Hope you have a blessed day in North Dallas. God bless,
Howell
