A New Season for From Law to Grace Blog

After a rather lengthy, self-imposed hiatus, I will be returning to a normal posting schedule after Labor Day. What normal looks like I don’t really know, but expect anywhere from three to five posts per week (depending on my family, church, and other commitments).

I rather enjoy writing when I have the time and energy.  In the interim between my most recent post, “The Radical Selection of David Platt to Lead the IMB” and my last post before my break, “The Pope, the President & Moral Clarity,” exactly five months had elapsed. Wow! That’s longer than I realized or expected.

Much has happened since March and much that I could have written about political, religious, cultural, and legal events was not. That’s okay. As an inconsistent Calvinist, I firmly believe that I wasn’t supposed to be writing about anything over these last several months. If I had written some posts (and there were several topics that were ripe for discussion), I might have written in a way that was less than grace-filled.

Since my first post at from “From Law to Grace” on July 1, 2010, it has been my intent to “discuss the intersection of law, religion, and politics in culture and Baptist life.” I have tried to do that in a gracious (i.e., non-legalistic) way, but I have not always hit the target. Sometimes I have missed by a little and other times I have missed by a mile.

When you are passionate about a particular subject — be it in the world of politics, religion, law, or the culture at-large — sometimes that passion can have unintended consequences. I was reminded recently that our best intentions can still end up causing others pain. When that happens, even unintentionally and even if we don’t think the other person should have been hurt by what we said or did, it is incumbent upon us (particularly followers of Christ) to apologize and ask for forgiveness.

Therefore, for those who were personally offended by something that I wrote, I am truly sorry. I ask that you would forgive me for causing any pain with my words, for that was certainly not my intent, although that was the outcome. Despite the nursery rhyme, words can often cause more (long-lasting) pain than sticks or stones.

As I resume regular posting next week, my goal is to discuss and dialogue about issues that I find interesting and that I hope will entertain, inform, inspire, and, at times, make you think or re-think your position. As always, I value the input of those who take the time to read, especially those who express opposing or contrarian views. Please feel free to comment (keep it clean and directed at issues, not people) or send me a personal email. I will do my best to respond as soon as possible, usually within a few hours at the most.
