UPDATE: Wow! Killing babies really does trump curing breast cancer, not just for Hollywood celebrities, but for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Capitulating to the all-out assault from the abortion-loving left in this country, the Komen Foundation reversed course on February 3 and reinstated funding for Planned Parenthood. I’m sure that Komen will issue prompt refunds to all those who contributed in the last two days, based on their earlier decision to stop the grants to PP. I hope that all the Hollywood celebrities and the politicians who terrorized Komen until they reversed course are proud of themselves. Score another victory for the pro-death, pro-abortion lobby in the United States. They maybe pleased, but the Creator of the Universe certainly can’t be!
I must admit that I had not been following the whole kerfuffle over the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s announcement that they would no longer issue grants to Planned Parenthood. My first reaction was, “Why was a foundation, whose mission is to find a cure for breast cancer, funding an organization that is responsible for the deaths of millions of unborn children, including an untold number of girls?” My second reaction was, “Good for them!”
In the wake of that announcement, the lunatic left has become completely unhinged (if that is even possible). Many of Komen’s supporters — who have heretofore contributed to the Komen Foundation’s excellent work in finding a cure for breast cancer — are vowing to withhold their financial support. Why? Because this charitable foundation, which has done much to help millions of women battling breast cancer, had the audacity to change its funding policies. Those changes affected Planned Parenthood’s qualifications for a grant. After receiving grants the last four years, PP will no longer get money from the Komen Foundation. I guess they will have to go elsewhere in their quest to help kill as many unborn children as possible. (And, for those who say these funds were “merely” used to provide medical testing (such as mammograms) to women and were not used to fund abortions, I would point out that the Komen grants merely freed upon PP money that could then be used to directly end the lives of unborn children through abortion.)
Not to worry. Hollywood to the rescue. Some Hollywood celebrities (and I use that term loosely), including Roseanne Barr, Ellen Barkin, Dana Delaney, and Lance Armstrong, are apparently cutting ties with the Komen Foundation. The decision of the last of those, former Tour de France champion Armstrong, certainly makes one go, “huh?” If memory serves, wasn’t it this “great” cyclist who was engaged to Sheryl Crow when she was diagnosed with breast cancer? How is taking money from the Komen Foundation, which has done so much to help women whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, the rationale thing to do? Oh, I forgot. This is Hollywood and their leftist enablers (including NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg). Thinking with their minds is not necessarily Hollywood’s strong suit. Of course, thinking with other parts of the anatomy comes quite naturally for many in Tinseltown!
But, Hollywood, like almost all of the Democrat Party (that’s somewhat redundant), are sold out to the “pro-choice” cause. Anything that deviates from wholesale, 100% agreement and support for the abortion lobby in this country is anathema to the left. Instead of continuing to contribute to both the Komen Foundation AND Planned Parenthood — which are not mutually exclusive if you support both finding a cure for breast cancer and support the slaughter of innocent babies — the left in Washington, D.C., NYC, and Hollywood will withdraw their support for Komen’s excellent breast cancer research.
Not to worry. Contributions to the Susan G. Komen Foundation have soared more than 100% in the last two days. I guess life — the life of both women with breast cancer and unborn babies — does matter. At least to most Americans. Hollywood — not so much!
SGK has caved to the pressure and has dropped plans to cut off PP.
LifeWay made a good decision on this and should be commended, whatever SGK does about PP.
Wiliam,
Thanks for the update. I have since added an update to my post. This is not surprising. It seems the abortion lobby and the homosexual lobby are the two groups that you dare not opposed. I hope that Komen will return all of the funds that they collected over the last two days (a 100% increase), but I won’t hold my breath on that one. Have a great weekend. God bless,
Howell
Having worked on non-profit boards gives me a clue about how important donations are to those organizations in this day and time. It is scary how much political pull and influence in the media PP has. It is also unbelievable how people would rally against an organization that gives 100% of its effort to fighting cancer and take the side of the organization that we are not even sure of how many mammograms are given. I would love to know what percentage of PP’s effort goes into the cancer cause. SGK is held hostage and hope they can phase out their partnership over time.
Judy,
You are exactly correct about the importance of donations. As to the percentages that go toward actual mammograms, I don’t think it really matters in this regard. Let’s assume that 100% goes towards mammograms — which are good and necessary. But, for every PP dollar given by SGK that they can use for mammograms just frees up — dollar for dollar — what PP can use to fund abortions. Any way that you slice it, Komen funds given to Planned Parenthood help to fund — even if indirectly — abortions in this country. The left is great at holding others hostage to their political/social agendas. The only thing that will get Komen’s attention is for Christians to redirect their contributions to other charities which do not support PP. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment this morning. Have a great day! God bless,
Howell
During this “discussion” it seems that there are two opinions on the finances of abortions. One is that they are “hugely profitable” and the other is that any outside money goes to support the abortion effort.
Good luck with your or your sister’s or your daughter’s ektopic pregnancy. Well, after all, all of you knew what you were in for when you got pregnant. That embryo is a person, no matter where it chooses to implant itself. It must be saved at all costs. And yes, “Virtually all ectopic pregnancies are considered nonviable and are at risk of eventual rupture and resulting hemorrhage. In addition to the immediate morbidity caused by ectopic pregnancy, the woman’s future ability to reproduce may be adversely affected as well.” (Morbidity means death, by the way.) But nobody said life for the living is fair, did they?
